3-part package; 3-month agenda
South Australia is enhancing its economic response with several initiatives starting April 27, including income support, a Coronavirus supplement, and boosted cash flow for employers. Additionally, the State has introduced a $13.8 million International Student Support Package.
A Multi-Million Package
A new $13.8 million support package for international students includes funding partnerships with major universities, grants for non-affiliated students, and payments for homestay families.
Student Support
International students in South Australia can receive support if enrolled in English language courses, vocational training, or private higher education institutions.
Done in Phases
The State's economic response includes phased support starting April 27, with later stages providing additional payments and cash flow boosts.
The Government of South Australia will actively continue with the economic response assistance following a three month agenda. Income support, Coronavirus supplement and the first phase of boosting the cash flow for employees will all commence on 27 of April. The following month would be the start of initial JobKeeper payments to be received by employers, and increased transfer payments from reduced deeming rates. The second phase of boosting the cash flow for employers and next round of $750 payment will be given to support households.
On the side note, the call for international student government funding has finally been granted in the state of South Australia. The new stimulus aims to provide $13.8 million International Student Support Package to those eligible.
Three components include the package:
- South Australian government will be working hand in hand with top three universities namely University of Adelaide, Flinders University and University of South Australia to match funding;
- $500 cash grant to other international students not studying in the aforementioned universities
- One-off $200 COVID19 assistance payment will be provided to homestay families for accommodation purposes

The new $13.8 million support package offers cash grants and COVID-19 assistance for international students in South Australia
